We know what you’re thinking: Why the hell would I buy a white suit?! Well, for one, it’s going to be a sticky summer, and you need a wardrobe boost to help you stay cool. The new white suit isn’t a business suit—and it’s definitely not the Colonel Sanders or the Saturday Night Fever. The idea is to dress it down, embrace the wrinkles, and let it get a bit dirty. When you treat it that way, you’ll be surprised how versatile it becomes: For drinks by the beach, team it with a tee. For an alfresco dinner, ditch the pants and wear the jacket with jeans. Or pair the suit with a strong checked shirt like you see here for every summer wedding. Unlike the bride’s dress, this suit won’t imply you’re a virgin.

Raise Your Game: It’s Time to Update Your Soft Wear Sweats have long been the domain of slovenly Americans at the airport. But now designers like Alexander Wang have transformed them. Finally, you can lounge on the couch in comfort without killing your girlfriend’s libido—and even wear them in public. A man’s style is best judged by what he wears when no one’s looking. Even if you’re just reading the paper alone on a Saturday morning, it makes a difference if you have something to lounge in that’s as well-made and flattering as your streetwear. It shows you always maintain high standards. So instead of boxers, try a pair of sweats that are cut slim and straight, just like a good pair of jeans.

The sports jacket is the most important item in your wardrobe this season. You will be wearing it all day, every day, no kidding. (As you can see in this Style Wednesday, there are countless ways to style it, whether you’ve got business to handle or you’re simply hanging out.) Just remember: It’s called a sports jacket for a reason. You can dress it up, but it’s meant to be played in. Hard. That means throwing it on the backseat of your car or cramming it in your backpack once you’ve peeled it off. It doesn’t need an occasion, and it doesn’t need to match anything. It just needs to be worn…and worn…and worn, until it fits you like a second skin. A sports jacket isn’t a suit, so don’t treat it like one. A plaid shirt, purple sweater, anything from khakis to jeans it all works.

Popular as a men’s shoe style for centuries, the wing-tip traces its origins to the 1800s in Scotland and Ireland where shoes typified by the layering of untanned leather panels gained popularity at the time. Acting as early-modern outdoor footwear, this style was called the brogue and laid the foundation for later re-appropriations of the same shoe. Perforations on the toe and lower profile of the brogue allowed any water to drain from the shoe itself when worn in wet conditions. A shoe was needed that could effectively stand up to wet environments and the brogue fit this niche.

Traditionally, it’s the most conservative suiting color but not when you’re riffing on it like this. Our favorite business look for spring is all about piling on the blues, from your suit to your socks and everything in between. The blue suits we’re digging now are more revved up than plain ol’ navy: They’re warmer, inkier, more vibrant and unexpected. Like the slick three-piece worn below.

One that has some substance to it think wide lapels and a sharp, double-breasted cut. One that has some swing to it, too heavy enough to keep things toasty yet light enough so that the cloth moves when you move. And one with some character a weave or pattern that will stand out from all the basic black coats choking up the sidewalk. This angora-blend glen-plaid coat from Hugo Boss is just such a coat, and whether you’re wearing it with your Wednesday suit or your Saturday jeans, it’ll finish off your New Deal right. The trouble with wearing double-breasted anything is the illusion of bulk, so you want a DB coat that will tighten up your profile. Notice the trim, sartorial cut on this Paul Stuart coat: When you close it up, it’ll hug your torso and slim you down.
